Virat Kohli’s off form has been a hot topic for world cricket for the last few time. Kohli is going through a rough patch and couldn’t score a single century in his last 100 innings.
Many experts have shared their opinions on this. Now Sunil Gavaskar shares his view in an interview with Sports Tak.
On Virat Kohli’s off-form:
The legendary batsman of India has said that it’s not a serious matter of concern. It happens with every player. But whenever it’s Kohli people start to raise their fingers. When Rohit doesn’t make runs or any other batsman fails to score runs, no one talks this much about then why for Kohli.
About probable reason behind Kohli’s short stays in crease:
He also thinks India’s aggressive style of play is another reason as when you are supposed to go into the middle and have to start swinging the bat from the beginning, the chances of failure are high. Both times Kohli has been dismissed in the T20I Series against England while playing aggressive shots.
About suggestion to team management regarding any decision about Virat:
Gavaskar also said that team management should come to any conclusion only after the Asia cup that is going to be held in August. No decision would make sense from this early stage. In the Asia Cup, India will play against quality sides such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. After that tournament team management can get a clue about the core team.
About Kapil Dev and Rohit Sharma’s statement reagarding Virat:
Previously Kapil Dev has suggested dropping Kohli from the T20 sides. Rohit Sharma firmly backed his one of the main batsmen. When Sunil Gavaskar was asked about this, he told both perspectives should be needed. From the outside, it’s difficult to understand what’s going on inside the dressing room and rather it shouldn’t come out of the dressing room, but also there’s a reason to appoint foreign coaches as outside perspectives are necessary too. He also clarified that whether it be Kapil Dev or Rohit Sharma, ultimately both have talked for the betterment of Indian cricket.
About reports regarding Kohli’s rest in West Indies series:
According to some reports Virat Kohli has asked for rest in the T20I series against West Indies. When Gavaskar was addressed about this, he clearly said that he doesn’t support it at all. When anyone is playing for the nation how can he ask for rest. Nobody takes a rest while playing the IPL. He also added that T20 cricket is played only for 20 overs. The body doesn’t get affected as much as in the Test match. Players like Virat Kohli are included in the A grade contract of BCCI who get huge payments. Hence the BCCI shouldn’t permit rest here and there. He also clarified that no one gets back in form by resting at home, they have to take the field. Gavaskar has expressed his unhappiness with this call.
The legendary Indian batsman believes that Virat Kohli might get back in form in the ODI format as the format suits his style of play. He is hopeful once he comes back in form he will shut the mouth of his critics once again with his performance.
