Washington Sundar used the given opportunity well in the first ODI against New Zealand.
New Zealand after winning the toss, opted to bowl first at Eden park, Auckland but their decision proved to be regretful when Indian openers involve in 124-run partnership for the first wicket. Shubman Gill smacked 50 runs in 65 balls while Shikhar Dhawan made terrific 72 runs off 77 deliveries.
After that, Shreyas Iyer showed his class and dominated Kiwi bowlers. Iyer slammed 80 runs off 77 deliveries before giving his wicket to Tim Southee. It was Iyer’s 4th fifty-plus score against New Zealand in last four ODIs.
Rishabh Pant & Suryakumar Yadav could not contribute much and departed after scoring 15 & 3 respectively. Then came Sundar who was the replacement of Ravindra Jadeja in this series. Sundar played a quick fire came of 37 runs off 16 balls including 3 sixes & 3 fours and helped India set target of 306 runs.
