Asia Cup has eventually began on Saturday with Afghanistan facing Sri Lanka in Dubai. However, the match was not much competitive as Afghanistan comfortably beat Sri Lanka in the first game of the tournament.
Afghanistan after winning the toss, invited Sri Lanka to bat first. Sri Lanka did not have a great start as their key batsmen Kusal Mendis and Asalanka departed cheaply. No Sri Lankan batsman was able to crack Afghanistan bowlers excellent Bhanuka Rajaspkse who made a crucial 38 runs off 29 deliveries.
Sri Lanka’s innings bundled out for 105 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the leading wicket-taker from Afghanistan side who picked 3W-haul.
Afghanistan easily chased down facing just 61 balls with the loss of 2 wickets. Hazratullah Zazai & Rahmanullah Gurbaz made 37 & 40 runs respectively and helped Afghanistan to boost their net run rate.
But the incident which surprised everyone happened in the second over of Sri Lanka’s innings. Naveen-ul-haq bowled a full offside delivery, kind of leg-cutter on which Nissanka tried to play it over the mid-on but he missed the shot and ball went into the wicket-keeper’s hands, afterwards Afghanistan appealed for an outside edge and the umpire gave Nissanka out.
On which Nissanka took a review and the 3rd umpire used ultra-edge technique to check whether the ball edged the bat or not, in the ultra-edge, there were no deviations still third umpire told the onfield umpire to stand with his original decision and the batsman had to walk towards the pavilion.
