Australian star Steven Smith is as well known for his animated reactions, while batting as his records as a batsman. Another example of Smith’s funny yet appreciable reaction was seen on the 1st day of the 2nd test match between Australia and Sri Lanka.
Smith was batting convincingly the whole day and created too much problem for the bowlers. It was tough for the Lankan bowlers to get a pass from Smith’s blade on this batting friendly pitch of 1st day.
Towards the end of the day the pitch slightly changed its nature and the ball started gripping from the pitch and spin as well. Sri Lankan left arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who was making his debut, delivered a slow left arm off-spin that turned a lot from the leg stump and bit Steve smith all over before going to keeper’s gloves.
Smith also got impressed with the delivery and showed thumbs up to the Sri Lankan debutant. It would certainly be a huge boost for Jayasuriya to get appreciation from such a renowned batsman.
Eventually Steven Smith scored a dominating century and got away from the wait of century for a long one and half year. Still he is at the crease and went back to the pavilion without losing his wicket after the stumps of day 1. Australia is now on 289/5.
Wicket-keeper Alex Carey is at the crease along with Smith. Both will look up to build a solid partnership on day 2 morning and take Australia to a commendable position in the Test match.
