The speculations over Women’s IPL is going on from last few years. Fans have been waiting for a long time to witness Women’s IPL similar to that of Men’s.
Recently BCCI president Sourav Ganguly talked about the future of Women’s IPL. He said that it will be commenced from 2023 as a window has been chosen for that during March, 2023. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also confirmed about the origination of Women’s IPL.
He said that The whole idea is to balance cricket and commercial interests as BCCI is committed to developing sports in the country through cricket. The money they generate through media rights will ultimately benefit grassroots cricket in India and that is what ultimately matters. The BCCI is also committed to launching the Women’s IPL in 2023 apart from creating maximum opportunities for the growth of women’s cricket in the country.
Recently during Women’s Hundred match between Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave at the Kennington Oval, Smriti Mandhana whacked magnificent 46 runs off 25 balls. After the match, during the interview a reporter asked her, “With the Women’s IPL coming next year, can we expect the same kind of enthusiasm back at home as well?”
Smriti answered with a smile and said that she thinks whenever they play there is lot of enthusiasm back home irrespective of the format. Indian fans love cricket and they turn up to support us regardless of one-day or T20. So Women’s IPL will be great.
