Australian star batsman Steven Smith got into a mixup with Usman Khawaja while taking a single in the first innings of Australia vs Sri Lanka 1st Test, Galle, and got run out. He was not happy with his partner and was seen waving his hands in disappointment while returning to the pavilion.
Earlier Australia restricted the Hosts to 212 runs with help of Nathan Lyon’s 5-far. But it was a hard wicket to bat on. Australia also lost three wickets on the spin-friendly pitch till the end of the day. Sri Lankan spinner Ramesh Mendis took two of them including the key wicket of David Warner on individual 25 runs.
But the control of the match was taken by the home team when they got Australian star, Steve Smith, with a runout. Smith wanted to take a quick single but Usman Khawaja sent him back from the midway. But it was too late for Smith to get back to his crease despite his desperate dive. He got out on 6 runs only. The player was not seen happy at all with his partner and in disappointment he returned to the pavilion, waving his hands.
Though Khawaja is trying to take Australia to a strong position and is at the crease on 47 runs at the end of the day with some help from Sri Lankan wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella’s miss stumping.
All eyes of the Australian dressing room will be on Khawaja on day 2. The left-handed batsman is looking good at the crease. If he can convert his start into a big score, Australia will certainly reach a commendable position.
