Watch – Indian-origin bowler becomes the first hat-trick taker of 2022 T20 World Cup
Indian origin United Arab Emirates spinner Karthik Meiyappan took the first hat-trick of T20 World Cup 2022.
In the group A game between Sri Lanka and UAE, the latter decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Sri Lanka managed to score 152/8 in 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka was the top-scorer of Sri Lanka’s innings scoring 74 runs off 64 deliveries. Dhananjaya de Silva also played a splendid cameo of 33 runs in 21 balls.
Sri Lanka could have scored more runs than they actually did if Karthik Meiyappan would not have showed his wrath on Sri Lankan batters. In the 15th over, Meiyappan dismissed Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka and captain Dasun Shanaka to claim first hat-trick of 2022 Twenty20 World Cup.
Karthik Meiyappan becomes only the fifth bowler in cricket history to take hattrick in a T20 World Cup. However, UAE batters could not replicate the same performance as their bowlers and their innings bundled out for just 73 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga picked 3 wickets conceding just 8 runs in 4 overs.
