In the thrilling first encounter, India defeated the hosts by a little margin of 3 runs. West Indies after winning the toss invited India to bat first. Dhawan-Gill duo get off to a great start as they added 119 runs for the first wicket.
Shubman Gill smashed his maiden ODI fifty (64) while captain Dhawan missed his well-deserved 18th ODI century and made splendid 97 runs. Shreyas Iyer who was vice-captain of the team in place of Jadeja also showed his batting capability and slammed 54 runs off 57 balls. India put on 305 runs on the board.

In response, West Indies with the aid of half centuries of Kyle Mayers (75) & Brandon King (54) and cameos of Shamrah Brooks (46) and Romario Shepherd (39) tried to reach the target. West Indies needed 15 runs in the last over to be victorious. Siraj who was bowling the last over conceded a boundary on third ball and a double on the 4th delivery.
Thus, Caribbean needed 8 runs off last 2 balls to seal the match then Siraj on the last delivery bowled a big wide on the leg side, wicket-keeper Sanju Samson dived by putting his full effort and stopped the ball from touching the boundary. Siraj spent just 3 runs on his last 2 balls and India managed to triumph over the hosts.
