India’s former opener and World Cup winning member Gautam Gambhir again target those who give credit to one or two individual players for the tournament victory.
When asked “Do you think that this whole hero worship chokes the next star to come up?” Gambhir answered that nobody has grown in that shadow. It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni earlier, it is Virat Kohli now.
Gambhir also talked about the match in which Kohli scored his 71st hundred. Gambhir said that everyone gave credit to Virat Kohli for the contribution but the pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was equally good in that match who took a terrific fifer.
Gambhir further said that media hypes only two or three cricketers and give them credit for the victory. It all started from 1983 world cup when credit of winning title was given to Kapil devil, followed by MS Dhoni bin 2007 & 2011 World Cup.
There are more than two or three people who are stakeholders of Indian cricket. They don’t rule Indian cricket, they should not be ruling Indian cricket. Indian cricket should be ruled by the 15 people sitting in that dressing room. Everyone has a contribution to make… He has never been able to follow anyone in his life. And that has been his biggest problem. The media and the broadcasters create a brand, no one else creates a brand, Gambhir stated .Gajta
