A hilarious incident happened during the first game of Commonwealth Games Womens Cricket Competition 2022. India is taking on Australia in the inaugural match and we witnessed a funny incident in just the first match.
India women won the toss and decided to bat first. India’s key batter Smriti Mandhana departed early after giving catch to Healy in Darcie Brown’s over. But the other opener Shafali Verma stood grittily at the crease and faced the Aussie bowlers with determination. She made 48 runs off 33 balls but gifted her wicket in Jonassen’s over.
In 14th over, a ridiculous incident happened on the 4th delivery of McGrath’s. McGrath bowled a wide leg-side delivery, on which Shafali came at front foot to play a shot across leg-side but she missed out the ball, which went in wicket-keeper Healy’s hand.
Healy knocked out the stumps when Shafali was outside the crease, but later it was noticed that she knocked the bails out with the hand which was not carrying the ball, the ball was in her other hand. However, she stumped again with the hand carrying the ball but she needed to take the stumps out as the bails were already fallen but she did not. Thus, umpire declared Shafali not out.
India is currently batting on 123 with the loss of 5 wickets in 17 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur is batting on 29 runs facing 23 deliveries while Harleen Kaur is playing on 2 runs off 3 balls. Jess Jonassen has been the most successful bowler from Australian side as she has taken 3W haul after conceding just 11 runs in her 3 overs.
