Asia Cup is about to start in 2 weeks. The venue of 15th version is chosen to be UAE. The first game of the tournament will be played between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
Asia Cup has been organizing since 1984. The first edition of the tournament was won by Team India. India have won the most number of Asia Cup tournaments, clinching the title 7 times. Sri Lanka is at number 2 in winning most Asia Cup titles (5) and Pakistan is at 3rd (2). India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the only three teams who managed to conquer the title.
Here is the list of most successful Indian captains in Asia Cup:
1. Mohammad Azzharudin – India won Asia Cup trophy for the third time in 1990/91 under the leadership of Mohammed Azharuddin. Later on, under the same captain India won the next edition in 1995. Making Azharuddin one of the most successful Indian captains in Asia Cup.
2. MS Dhoni – India conquered their 4th Asia Cup trophy in 2010 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. Later on, Dhoni-led India won the 5th title in 2016 making MS the most successful Indian captain in Asia Cup along with Azharuddin.
3. Sunil Gavaskar – India won the inaugural edition of Asia Cup in 1984 by thrashing Sri Lanka. Gavaskar captained the side and led the team to win their first ever Asia Cup Trophy.
4. Dilip Vengsarkar – In the 3rd edition of Asia Cup which happened in 1988, India clinched their second Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka again. This time the team was captained by Dilip Vengsarkar.
5. Rohit Sharma – Last edition of Asia Cup which took place in 2018 was triumphed by India again, hence making them the most successful Team in Asia Cup History. Current Indian captain Rohit Sharma led India to win their 7th title by beating Bangladesh in the final.
