Being a wicketkeeper is not easy as it looks. Yes, they do not have to run around the field chasing the ball, but they can’t afford to relax for a second once the bowler is ready to deliver. The difficulty is getting up and squatting for every delivery, and the fact that they need to play a pivotal role in batting too would test any wicketkeeper’s endurance. Additional responsibilities with captaining the team also exist sometimes. There are two ways a keeper serves the team and bowler apart from effecting run-outs. The two are:
• Catches
• Stumping
Generally, catches come off fast bowlers as the ball catches the edge of the bat. Stumping chances arise more due to spinners relatively.
We have presented an analysis of top wicketkeeper’s in the IPL who have aided the cause with maximum wickets behind the stumps. It’s MS. Dhoni who heads the list, and one needs to remember he is one of the most successful IPL captains, if not ‘ the ” most successful captain.
