T20 World Cup 2022: First round, Super 12 Groups, Teams and Schedule
The wait is finally over. ICC has announced the first round and Super 12 groups of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 that will be taking place in Australia. Before the main event of Super 12, the first round will be played where there will be two groups and from those 2 groups, four teams will enter the Super 12. Big news is that the two former champions of this tournament, Sri Lanka and West Indies will have to go through this first round.
Sri Lanka is in the Group A along with Namibia , UAE, Netherlands and West Indies is in Group B along with Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe.
The First Round Teams for T20 World Cup 2022:
Group A teams: Namibia , UAE, Netherlands, Sri Lanka
Group B teams: Scotland, Ireland and Zimbabwe, West Indies
Two teams from each group will qualify into Super 12. The Super 12 fixtures are also divided into two groups, Group 1 and Group 2. The champions of Group A and Runners up of Group B will be featuring in Group 1 in Super 12 and while The champions of Group B and Runners up of Group A will be featuring in Group 2 in Super 12 round.
In Super 12 , Afghanistan will be featuring in Group 1 along with Australia, England, New Zealand, Group A champion and Group B runners up from First round.
The biggest news is that India and Pakistan are in the same group along with South Africa and Bangladesh in Group 2. Group B champions and Group A runners up will be also be the part of Group 2.
So here is the Groups Scenario for T20 World Cup 2022:
Group 1: Australia, England, New Zealand , Afghanistan, Group A Winner and Group B runners up from First round.
Group 2: India , Pakistan, South Africa , Bangladesh, Group B Winner and Group A runners up from first round.
The hype has already started regarding the face off of the arch rivals India and Pakistan. The carnival will start on 16th October with Sri Lanka and Namibia game in Group A of first round. The Super 12 round will begin from 22nd October. The first match will be played between New Zealand and Australia.
The biggest match of this tournament, India vs Pakistan will be played on 23rd October at Melbourne Cricket stadium. The final of T20 WC 2022 will be played on 13th November at the MCG Cricket Stadium.
