India’s T20 World Cup got over when they witnessed a crushing defeat against England in semifinal.
Team India could not give a good fight to english team and completely surrendered to them. England easily managed to thrash men in blue by 10 wickets by chasing 160-run chase. Jos Buttler & Alex Hales’ relentless batting did not give any chance for the Indian bowlers to make comeback.
After the defeat, captaincy of Rohit Sharma and the position of senior players have come into question. Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar opined about India’s next captain. Gavakar showed his support for Hardik Pandya who will captain India in 3-match T20 series against New Zealand starting from 18th November.
“For the tour of New Zealand, it’s a different team. The team is going there under Hardik Pandya. He will begin to put his stamp on the team because clearly the selection comittee has sent a signal that he, having won the IPL in his first assignment, as a captain, they have marked him out as captain for T20s. So I think with Pandya, it will be a completely different team,” said Gavaskar.
“There will some retirements also coming through, you never know. This is not the time to think about it. You really get away from it, give it a lot of thought but there are a lot of players in their mid-30s who would consider their position for the Indian T20 team,” Gavaskar further added.
