After winning the T20 series by 2-1, Indian team could not replicate the same performance in the first ODI against South Africa.
India were playing with their B team as they rested their key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul. Shikhar Dhawan was captaining the match while Shreyas Iyer was the vice-captain in 40-over rain affected game.
India after winning the toss invited South Africa to bat first. South Africa did not have a great start, yet their middle order proved to be useful apart from Quinton De kock’s 48-run-knock. David Miller continued his marvellous form and slammed 75 runs in 63 balls.
Miller built up 139 runs partnership with Henry Klaasen ( 74* off 65) and helped South Africa to put on 249/4 on board. Shardul Thakur remained the best bowler from Indian side who took 2 wickets in his 8-over spell.
Talking about India’s innings, India lost their both openers Shikhar Dhawan & Shubman Gill at the score of 8. Ruturaj Gaikwad who came to bat at number also failed to deliver and walked off scoring 19 runs. Afterwards, Shreyas Iyer & Sanju Samson accelerated the innings.
Shreyas Iyer completed his fifty in just 33 balls but he departed just after scoring fifty but Sanju Samson stood on the crease and made 103-run partnership with Shardul Thakur (33). India needed 30 runs in the last over to win but Sanju managed to scored 20 runs and India lost the game by 9 runs. Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 86 facing 63 deliveries.
