The world cricket got surprised when England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes announced his upcoming retirement plan from ODI cricket after the first ODI against South Africa on 19th July 2022. Many current and former players have paid tribute to him on his latest Instagram post. Now Virat Kohli came up with a heart-warming message for Stokes.
The hero of the 2019 cricket world cup final, England’s Ben Stokes posted his photo with the world cup trophy in his hand.
He announced in that post that he is going to play his last match in Durham on Tuesday. He is going to retire from the ODI format as it’s being unsustainable for him to continue in three formats. His body is letting him down and he’s feeling that he is taking the place of some other player who can serve the team better than him at this moment. He confirmed that he will give his 100% to the test and T20 format now. He also wished captain Jos Buttler best wishes along with all the coaches and support staff.
He finished up his announcement with his wish to win against South Africa in his home ground, Durham, and thanked everyone.
Virat Kohli commented with a heartwarming message for him. Virat commented that Ben Stokes is the most ‘competitive bloke’ he has ever faced. Virat has also shown respect towards Stokes for that.
The two have faced each other on many occasions. Both are fiercely competitive within the boundary rope. For that sometimes that have been indulged in some heated moments as well. Sometimes Virat pulled off, other times Stokes had the last smile. But outside the ground, both have immense respect for each other, and Virat’s comment is surely an example of that
