Steve Smith will be captaining Australia in the third test.
Current captain Pat Cummins has to return to Australia due to his mother’s illness. In his absence, Australia’s former captain Steve Smith will be seen taking the responsibility again. Smith will be captaining Australia for the first time in 4 years since he was banned for using sandpaper in test match against South Africa in 2018.
India is currently leading the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series by 2-0. Cummins-led Australia failed to compete Australia in first two games and overwhelmed by the hosts immensely. Moreover, Cummins has not been upto the mark with the ball as he managed to take just 2 wickets in 2 matches.
Cummins is likely to get replaced by pacer Mitchell Starc who had been phenomenal in test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
