Indian captain Rohit Sharma opened up on how he felt a change was needed after the last T20 WC in UAE.
T20 WC,2021 was not a good tournament for the Indian fans to remember as the team failed to qualify in the knockout stage due to the consecutive losses against arch rival Pakistan and New Zealand. The Virat Kohli- led side was eliminated from the super 12 round that disheartened millions of Indian cricket fans.
Present captain Rohit Sharma now shared the experience after the setback and what he felt to change and his chemistry with the head coach Rahul Dravid.
On Star Sports’ show ‘Follow The Blues’ Rohit said, “We have made it very clear after the T20 World Cup in Dubai, when we did not qualify and we felt there needs to be a change in our attitude, our approach, and how we play the game so we had the clear message given to the boys. They were ready to accept that challenge. Not too many chop and change in the squad. With Rahul Bhai, I have played some games with him, he was my first captain when I made my ODI debut so obviously, we have some sort of understanding.”
“And when he became the coach here, we met and sat together in a room for a while and we decided how we want to take this team forward and he was pretty much on the same thought process of how I was thinking,” he added further.
Rohit was handed over the captaincy after the T20 WC, last year. The Young Indian team has performed well over last year. Recently they have defeated England on their home soil in the T20 series and are currently at 3-1 lead over the West Indies team. Injuries have been a great concern for Rohit throughout his career but he will certainly look to lead the team in the upcoming T20 WC which will be taking place in Australia. Whole country will be looking at what kind of performance the team will put up in the most important tournament of this year under Rohit’s leadership.
