Kapil Dev Upsets with Samson’s Inconsistency
We are having T20 World Cup this year in Australia and all the teams have started preparing for it. Their main goal would be selecting the best squad going into the World Cup. Team India would be looking to do the same.
Preparations for this has been started from currently ongoing T20 Series verses Sr Lanka.
When the squad for this series was announced, Sanju Samson’s not being selected was the biggest news. Saju Samson scored 458 runs with the average of 28.63 in IPL 2022 with the bat and took his team into the finals. Considering his standards it was an average year for him with the bat. With some here and there type of performances, Samson didn’t perform consistently. Still it seemed that he will be selected in Indian squad for the SL series.
This inconsistency of Samson in the IPL and in the international cricket that he has played, has upset first-ever World Cup winning Captain, Kapil Dev. Kapil Dev has been very honest and straight forward with his views regarding the players and team India. Usually he is the one who has been impressed with the young talents and cheer them. Recently he was talking about Indian team and when asked about the 4 wicketkeepers that Team India has, he said that he won’t be able to tell who is the batter of all and they all are equally capable as batter and behind the stumps.
However former Indian captain was upset with one keeper among the four of DK, Ishan, Pant and Pandya, and that is Sanju Samson. Kapil dev said that he is very upset with Sanju Samson. He is so talented but he scores in 1-2 match and then fails. He has no consistency.” About the other wicketkeeper batters Kapil said, “Each one is better than the another. On the given day everyone of them is able to win the game for India”.
Sanju Samson has been a hard hitter of the ball and he plays with very good strike rate as the T20 format of the game required. But we have seen him performing in few games only in every season of IPL. He has been inconsistent in continuing the good performances. Same story goes to him in international cricket as well. He has played 13 T20s for Team India and he haven’t crosses 50 even on one occasion.
BCCI has also announced the Team India squad for the Ireland in which finally Samson has been selected. He needs to grab this opportunity with big hand and go big with consistent performances if he has to be in the world cup squad.
