The bad news was waiting for the Indian cricket fans as the BCCI has officially tweeted that Rohit Sharma tested positive in the Covid test just before some days before the much-awaited India vs England test match that will be starting from 1st July.
India is currently leading the series by a 2-1 margin. The previous year too India have to return to the country due to covid outbreak in England. India was set to appear in the final test. But their plan got a huge setback when captain Rohit Sharma get infected by the covid.
Some days before BCCI warned Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as they took selfies with the fans and told the team members to follow the covid protocols. Just after some days, the news of Rohit’s getting covid positive would certainly raise questions on BCCI that whether they could have been more strict with the players before the all-important game.
Rohit had performed brilliantly in the first half of the series. He is the highest run-scorer from the Indian team in the series. He showed a lot of improvement in his techniques and adapted to the English condition so nicely. Along with one ton and two half-centuries, Rohit Sharma played some gritty knocks in the earlier stage of the matches. His scores were 36, 12, 83, 21, 19, 59, 11, 127. He was also awarded the Man of the match in the 4th match.
Now the question is who will lead Team India in this important test match if Rohit’s wouldn’t be available for the match. Jasprit Bumrah is the player on whom all eyes are there to lead the team. And if he’s not available then Rishabh Pant may be given the captaincy. But it’s certain whoever be the captain, the former captain Virat Kohli would play an important role in this match with his bat and his tactical inputs to the in-charge captain as well.
