International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the four nominees for the player of the year 2022.
The four cricketer who have been nominated for the player of the year are Pakistan captain Babar Azam, England’s all-rounder & test captain Ben Stokes, Zimbabwe’s all-rounder Sikandar Raza & New Zealand’s test captain Tim Southee. They have been terrific either with bat or ball this year.
Babar has played 44 international matches this year and scored 2598 runs with an astounding average of 54.12 included 8 hundreds & 17 fifties this year. In test cricket, he amassed 1184 runs in 9 matches & 679 runs in ODIs in same number of appearances.
Talking about Ben Stokes, he scored 1066 runs as well as picked 33 wickets in 28 games he played. He also led England to win their second T20 World Cup trophy scoring a patient fifty in the final under pressure. However, he did not have a memorable stint in white-ball cricket in fact, he took retirement from ODI cricket to focus on the longer format.
Sikandar Raza too had a great stint in 2022 for Zimbabwe as he came out to be the leading run-scorer Zimbabwe batter in T20 World Cup 2022. Zimbabwe all-rounder hammered 1380 runs as well as picked 33 wickets in 39 matches.
Bowler Tim Southee was the leading wicket-taker bowler for New Zealand in a calendar year. He ended the year with 65 scalps in 33 wickets. He was the mainstay of New Zealand T20 World Cup campaign, picking 7 wickets in 5 games.
