Former Indian captain Virat Kohli compared his recent batting slump with the downfall of 2014 in a recent conversation in broadcaster Star Sports program “Game Plan”.
Virat Kohli’s poor form has been a hot topic for the cricket world for the last two and half years. The showstopper batsman smashed his last international century against Bangladesh in the historic day-night test match at Eden Gardens. Since then, Virat hasn’t been able to score any more centuries. His overall batting stat is not so promising since then. But in 2022, his form fell drastically as the batter failed to score big runs in all 3 formats.
It’s not the first time that Virat is facing such a situation. The England tour of India in 2014 proved to be a nightmare for the star batsman.
Now, In a recent interview with broadcaster Star Sports, just before the high-voltage clash against arch-rival Pakistan in the Asia Cup, Kohli compared his current form with his struggles on the tour of England in 2014. But Kohli doesn’t feel much worried about his current form as he feels he is batting well but it’s a moment of concentration lapse for which he is getting out after being set in the crease.
He said, “What happened in England was a pattern, so something that I could work on and something that I had to kind of overcome. Right now, as you rightly mentioned, there is nothing that you can point out saying that the problem is happening here. So, that for me, is actually an easier thing to process because I know that I’m batting well and at times, when I start feeling that rhythm back, then I know that I’m batting well. So, that for me is not an issue, which wasn’t the case in England; I didn’t feel like I was batting well at all. So, I had to work hard on one thing that could be exposed again and again which I overcame; right now this is not the case.”
India will start their campaign in Asia Cup on 28th August with a high-voltage clash against Pakistan. Being the most successful team of this tournament, Indian captain Rohit Sharma will surely look up to clinch another title and this time in international colour and for this, Virat Kohli is surely going to be one of his main trump cards.
