Hardik Pandya is reportedly set to become India’s next captain in white-ball format.
Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India had a poor stint as they could not reach in Asia Cup final and got eliminated in semifinal of T20 World Cup 2022. Earlier this year, Hardik captained IPL team (Gujarat Titans) and led them to clinch their maiden IPL title. Hence, Hardik seems to be the top-contender of India’s white-ball captaincy.
A source told ANI that the plan to make Pandya the next white-ball skipper has been discussed with the all-rounder. “We have this plan and we discussed it with Hardik. He has asked for some days for a response. No decision has been taken in this regard but we are currently in the thought process to give him the white-ball captaincy, let us see how things go further,” a source told ANI.
In international cricket, Hardik Pandya has captained the team only once. In June 2020, Hardik Pandya led men in blue in T20I series against South Africa at home. The series ended in a draw by 2-2 as the last match got washed out.
