England captain Ben Stokes felt unwell on Tuesday evening and as a result, he misses the training as his team started preparing for the Headingley Test against New Zealand.
The Headingley Test is going to start on Thursday and it is the last test of the series. England currently has the lead in the series by 2-0. The home team is looking for a clean sweep and started their preparation but their plan has faced a massive challenge as their captain, Ben Stokes was absent in the training due to his unwellness.
The 31-year-old English all-rounder played a massive part in winning the last test match by smashing 75 runs in just 70 deliveries. If he misses the last test match it would be a massive blow for England. But a support staff informed that it is nothing serious with Stokes and they are hopeful that he will recover before the Test match. He also informed that Stokes is currently kept away from the squad as a precautionary measure.
Stokes will again be accessed before Wednesday’s net Session and necessary decisions would be taken only after that.
England’s plan also got disturbed when batting coach Marcus Trescothick tested covid positive on Tuesday eve. The ECB has said that currently the batting coach is in isolation and he is being monitored daily.
Now all eyes will be on Headingley on Thursday morning whether Ben Stokes will come to toss to lead England in their successive series win over the Blackcaps or the stop gap captain would have to take the charge.
