Disney Star takes over Australian broadcasting rights from Sony

Disney Star has taken over the broadcasting rights from Sony. Sony has the Australian rights from 2017-18.

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced that they have signed a long seven-year contract with the Disney Star which will broadcast all Australia’s home matches against India. They have also considered India as the largest market for Sports.

The deal, starting from the 2023-24 season, says that Disney Star will televise all international matches as well as the KFC Big Bash League and Weber Women’s Big Bash League in India.

CA has also added that the reach of Disney Star will provide “enormous exposure”  to Australian cricket.

CA CEO Nick Hockley announced that Star has become synonymous with games in India and they are looking forward to working with Disney Star to show an outstanding brand of Cricket that will be played every summer in Australia.

He has added that the handover may also increase the spice of the rivalry between both teams. And the popularity of BBL and WBBL will reach a new height.

He has also shown his gratitude towards the Sony Sports Network for supporting through the last few years.

Eventually, some days before Star won the broadcasting rights of IPL. After that, winning the rights to Australian cricket is surely a big success for the broadcasting channel.
