Cricket Australia renamed an award on late Shane Warne.
Legendary leg-spinner Shane Warner who ruled cricketing world with his magical deliveries passed away on 4th March, 2022 due to heart-attack. The news utterly shook the cricket fraternity as Warne was completely fine a day before his death.
To honour him, Cricket Australia renamed Australia men’s test cricketer of the year award Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year award. This is the second most decorated award to be given to Australian cricketers after Allan Border Medal.
The Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) made the announcement during the Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Warne scalped 708 wickets in test format & 293 wickets in ODI format. Warne won Cricket World Cup for Australia in 1999, remaining player of the match in both semifinal and final.
