England Test captain Ben Stokes announced his upcoming retirement from the ODI format on Monday,18th July.
Ben Stokes posted his photo with the World Cup on Instagram and announced that he would play his last game in the 50 overs format on Tuesday against South Africa on his home ground, Durham.
After Stokes announced this, present and former players from all around the world started to pay tribute to him.
Indian megastar Virat Kohli was no exception. He delivered a heartwarming message to Stokes in which he said that Stokes is the “most competitive bloke” he has ever faced and showed his respect towards Stokes.
When Former English captain Nasser Hussain asked him about Kohli’s comment in an interview on Sky Sports, Ben replied that he also agrees that Virat will go down as an all-time great who has played this game in all three formats.

Stokes also added that Virat is a phenomenal player. He has loved every time he faced Kohli in any game. He is impressed with Virat’s aggressive nature and dedication to the game. When anyone plays against a player like Kohli they come to know that the game is not only meant for anyone but also for everyone who wants to play the game. The England test captain is hopeful that they would have more memorable faceoffs in the future too.
Stokes will play his last ODI match on Tuesday. The hero of the World Cup,2019 final has provided so many memorable moments in this format, and his respect for other players has won the hearts of millions of cricket fans all around the world.
