The West Indies had been an indomitable force in both Tests and ODI’s till the early 90s. Although India had won the World Cup in 1973, crushing the mighty Windies, the latter’s domination continued but was slowly losing its well-known aggression. India began competing against them more equitably in the early 90s, and the tables turned around after a few years. India now had the odds in their favour and took the lead against the Windies in the ODI’s.
India now leads 67- 63 of the 136 matches played so far. Although certain stalwarts have been rested for this tour, India is still a formidable force despite the fact they are playing in the opponent’s own back- yard.
West Indies are stronger at home than away. Nicholas Pooran needs no introduction, as does Jason Holder. Home conditions are expected to make the Windies more aggressive and give India a run for their money.
